The story is about Swaminathan aka. Swami who has many adventures and misadventures. Set in the fictional town of Malgudi in South India in the 1930s, the story revolves around Swami, his school, his friends, the freedom movement and how it affected school kids as well as cricket and its impact on the children. Each story can even be read on a standalone basis and enjoyed Swami manages to steal our hearts with his idiosyncrasies and adorable mannerisms.The illustrations are brilliant and Lavanya Naidu manages to capture the right emotions with her pictures at the apt places and situations. The look on Swami’s face when he floats out an ant or gets an engine from Rajam or dreams of a hoop are so perfectly sketched. Lavanya Naidu has managed to add a new dimension to the classic and has done full justice to the story, making it even more interesting to read and enjoy.
